The Learning Center

The first page you see when you visit the sandplay distance learning site is what we call The Learning Center.  This is the on line equivalent of the main reception building at a physical school. From this central place you have access to the courses you are taking.

Information about taking classes runs down the center of the page. Other items, such as News, the Calendar, and so on, are located along the right and left borders of the main Learning Center page.

If you would like to return to the Temenos Press home page, simply click on the " T " logo in the upper left corner.

Key Code and Information Dot

To the right of each course listing you will see a small image of a key and an " i " in a blue dot.

The key indicates that the course requires a key code to enter. You receive the key code when you register for the class.

The blue dot indicates an information link. Click on it to see a description of the course in a pop up window.  A pop up window is a separate window that opens on top of the main window. In other words, you can close the pop up without exiting the site.

Logging In & Logging Out

When you first enter the site, you are prompted to register a User Name and Password. You will use these to re-enter the Learning Center each time you visit. When you are finished, you may Log Out by clicking on the button in the upper right corner of the screen.

Navigation Bar & Links

The Navigation Bar is the narrow band running across the top of the screen. It records the page you are currently on, as well as the prior pages visited. Just as in Hansel and Gretel, this is often called the bread crumb trail, because it leaves a path we can follow to return home to the main Learning Center page.

In the Navigation Bar in this sample we see:

Learning Center >> Course 203 >> Forums >> Class Forum

This tells us that we are currently in the Class Forum, the last crumb dropped on the trail, reading from left to right. Following the trail back (1 to 2 to 3) we also know that we are in Course 203.

From this location, we can return to any stop along the trail, by clicking on that link. A link is the bright blue word(s) or an image that "lights up" as you pass the cursor over it. Clicking on a link connects you to another place in the Learning Center.

For example, to return to the main page for Course 203, we would click on the link shown at stop 3 in our sample. To return to the main Learning Center page, we would click on the link indicated by number 4 on our sample.

If you ever feel lost, just return to the Learning Center and start again!

Taking a Course

When you register for a Course, you will be given a key code (password) that allows you to enter your class room. We have used a consistent design for our courses to make navigating through them as easy as possible.

Like the main Learning Center page, the Course main page has the important features of the class running vertically down the center of the page. They are set up as follows, starting at the top:

*****

Order of Features on Course Main Page

1. General Information window

2. Class Forum

3.  Learning Objectives and Goals

 4. Reading Assignments

 5. On Line Lessons (Intermediate + Courses)

 6. Quiz

7.  Course Evaluation

*****

Start at the top of the course and work down.

First, review the general information about your class. Following this, read the Learning Objectives and Goals. As an example, let's look at Course 101.

~ Sample Course Layout ~

This is the top of the Course 101 main page. The upper most box, or window on the page provides information about the course.

Scrolling down, we see the link to the Class Forum, circled in red. Click on the blue Class Forum link to enter the discussion forum for that class. (Links will not work on our sample pages - just on the real ones!) The Course Forums are available for questions, comments, problems, and so on.

Notice the down-pointing blue arrow. Throughout our site, these point to an important link.  They are not links, themselves. The link is below the arrow.

All Course Tests are designed to be used as study tools.

Always print out the Quiz before doing your reading and assignments.

You return to the on line test to submit your final answers live on line. To pass the course you must score 80% or above. You may repeat the Test any number of times during your 5-day course period.

To Print Out the Quiz - Open the Quiz (via the Test link) and click Show All Questions in upper right corner of test. This opens the entire test. To print out quiz, click on Print View in the upper right part of the screen. Print using your printer icon.

When you take the quiz on line, leave the Test in the On-Question-At-A-Time mode.

Course Evaluation Form - Certificate of Completion

The Course Evaluation Form is submitted by email. When you have completed the class, and have successfully passed the Test, open the Course Evaluation Form page and answer the questions on the popup email link. The instructions for doing this are on each Evaluation Form page.

Evaluation Forms are required by law for continuing education units. Once, we receive your Evaluation Form, we will issue the Certificate of Completion via email. Certificates are issued on Tuesdays.

Course Listings

Course offerings are listed towards the bottom of the Learning Center main page. You will notice that they are grouped by categories, such as "Foundational Courses," "Introductory Courses," "Intermediate Courses," and so on.

The courses build upon the knowledge and experiences of prior courses, so we suggest that you take them in numerical order. For example, take course 201, then 202.

Remember....We want this to be an enjoyable, successful learning experience. If you cannot figure something out, return to the Learning Center, click on the blue email link publisher@temenospress.com and send us an email question. We hope you have a wonderful new experience in learning!
