post-doctoral studies in Jungian sandplay, licensed
clinicians and graduate students training in sandplay and
play therapy.
Our Foundational and Introductory classes, Levels 100 &
200, are designed for clinicians with general interest in
sandplay and play therapy. Our Intermediate training
programs are intended for clinicians with serious interest
in sandplay training.
All course instruction is conducted in an online-distance learning
format. Each course is taken at the Participant’s
convenience with no time limit. You may enroll for courses
at any time. You may enroll for courses at any time.
Our Integrative Sandplay Seminars are conducted both
online and in face-to-face settings. The Seminars use
participants’ own case material as the foundation for
continued study of sandplay. The Seminars are intended for
post-graduate clinicians currently using the Jungian
sandplay method in the therapeutic setting. To participate
in the Seminars, clinicians must have a working knowledge of
Foundational and Introductory course work in sandplay.
Seminars are intended for psychologists and post-graduate
mental health clinicians.
Taking the courses requires high speed internet access and the
required books. Readings draw from the classic literature in
Jungian sandplay and The Handbook of Sandplay Therapy
available from Temenos Press.
About the Facilitator

The Temenos Press Learning Center is pleased to sponsor
sandplay programs facilitated by Barbara A. Turner, PhD,
RPT-S. Dr. Turner draws from a rich experience in the online
learning environment. Completing the PhD at the California
Institute of Integral Studies in 1998, she is among the
first known recipients of an entirely online doctoral
degree. Dr. Turner studied what is known as
Transformative Learning, the development of educational
and learning environments, which are designed to effect
deep-order transformation in participants. Dr. Turner worked
entirely in the online program, using Jungian sandplay
therapy as the focus of transformation in psychotherapeutic
and social settings. Now in the Temenos Press Learning
Center, Dr. Turner brings this journey of transformative
learning full circle, in the creation of our online studies
in Jungian sandplay therapy.
Barbara A. Turner, PhD, is certified by the
International Society for Sandplay Therapy and the Sandplay
Therapists of America as a Sandplay Therapist and Teacher.
She is a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor with the
Association for Play Therapy. She holds the Bachelor of Arts
in Religious Studies, the Master of Arts in Counseling
Psychology, and the PhD in Integral Studies - Transformative
Learning with a focus in sandplay therapy.
Dr. Turner began her studies in sandplay with Dora Kalff in
Switzerland. She is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist in
California, with over twenty years of clinical experience.
Dr. Turner has contributed chapters to a number of play

Planning Your Study
For General Interest and Foundational Material in Jungian
Sandplay
We recommend our
Level 100 & 200 Courses.
Level 100-200 Courses are self-paced, read and test
classes that include the history and development of the
Jungian sandplay therapy method, the fundamentals of
sandplay process and procedures, and the essential role of
play in Dora Kalff’s sandplay method. These courses provide
the clinician with an informed understanding of what Jungian
sandplay therapy is, where it is appropriate in the clinical
setting, and how it differs from other methods of work in
the sand tray.
The Level 100-200 Courses form the foundation for
training to practice Jungian sandplay therapy. In addition,
these courses provide practitioners of other
psychotherapeutic methodologies a working understanding of
Jungian sandplay therapy and will assist in referral and
staffing processes.
Training to Practice Jungian Sandplay
Training to practice Jungian sandplay therapy is a
serious commitment that entails a number of considerations.
We recommend the following general guidelines:
- Take the Level 100 & 200 Courses
- Do your own sandplay process with a Certified
Sandplay Therapist
The personal sandplay process is an integral part of
Jungian sandplay training. Because Jungian sandplay therapy
works at the deepest levels of psychic functioning, it
cannot be learned from the head down. Rather, it can only be
understood from the INSIDE-OUT.
Doing your own sandplay work is essential to this
process.
Level 300+ Courses draw from The Handbook of Sandplay
Therapy and supplementary materials, as well as extensive
sandplay case material. They probe progressively deeper in
to Jungian theory and its application to sandplay therapy,
how the psyche develops and changes, and how symbols
function to move and transform the psyche. These courses
explore subjects such as the archetypal underpinnings of
sandplay process, the interactive “field” of sandplay
client, therapist and sand tray, as well as the practical
aspects of sandplay practice.
Level 300+ Courses emphasize the application of a growing
knowledge of Jungian sandplay to understanding sandplay case
material.

Integrative
Sandplay Seminars - Case Consultation
Once you begin practicing sandplay, you will also need to
do on-going consultation with a Certified Sandplay
Therapist, either individually, or in a group seminar
setting. Case Consultation is a critical component of
holding, or containing the sandplay work.
The Temenos Press® Learning Center hosts case
consultation in our Integrative Sandplay Seminar programs.
Through our secure online Learning Center, Barbara A.
Turner provides confidential sandplay consultation in both
seminar groups and individual settings. This consultation
qualifies for Association for Play Therapy and Sandplay
Therapist of America training/consultation hours.
How Online Consultation &
Seminars Work
Doing online consultation is not difficult – It’s fun,
and is a rich, valuable experience. Here’s how it works:
- Register for Integrative Sandplay Seminar Group or
Individual Consultation – Details below
- Once registered, you receive an access code for the
“location” of your consultation room in our Temenos
Press® Learning Center. These are secure locations,
available only to registered members.
- Case presenters email Dr. Turner a brief biography
of the case and their sandplay images in digital (.jpg)
format, via email.
Three ways to obtain digital pictures:
- Take your sandplay photos with a digital camera,
- Scan your slides and save as .jpg files, or
- Have a photo shop convert them for you and put on a
disc.
- Barbara Turner uploads the biography and images for
viewing in our classroom, and determines the rate of our
progression from tray to tray, based on readiness. Group
and individual case discussions are posted
asynchronously. This means that participants are not all
on line at the same time. Rather, each member “goes” to
consultation when he or she is able. In this way we are
able to join with sandplay therapists from around the
world to share and learn.
Integrative Sandplay
Seminar Group Consultation – Structure and Procedures
- Seminar groups consist of a maximum of six (6) participants,
but may begin working when we have three members.
- To maintain group integrity and respect for the
work, members must commit to the seminar for one year (9
sessions) Seminar group members are expected to pay for their
group meetings, whether they are able to attend, or not.
- Seminar group membership is made through application to
Barbara Turner. See below
- Seminar meetings are for a total 3 “hours” per
month, and are conducted over the course of a specific
week. (For example, your group may “meet” during the
first week of each month.) Our The Temenos Press
Learning Center site maintains an automated log that
tracks all of our activity. This helps determine how
many hours the group has worked.
- Group members take turns presenting their case
material, following a scheduled rotation.
- We “discuss” the case material by typing and posting
our thoughts, feelings and comments in our secure,
private consultation area.
- Barbara A. Turner, PhD, directs the discussion,
keeping it on track, teaching, commenting, and giving
her reflections on the case material, the process, etc.
Dr. Turner interacts actively with participants and
their case work, teaching directly from the
participants’ own sandplay case material. Dr. Turner
structures both individual and seminar group inquiries
to appropriately challenge participants and to
facilitate the continued professionalism in sandplay
therapy. The free and open exchange of ideas is an
integral part of case consultation study.
- The case presenter interacts with the group
discussion, reflecting on applicability of participant
reflections to the work being discussed, questions,
realizations, reflections, and so on.

Integrative Sandplay Seminar Group consultation fees
are $75.00 US Dollars/month.
